SAINT GEORGE — St. George Police are asking for help from the public to find a man suspected in a fraud and forgery investigation with victims across the country.

Sgt. Sam Despain said the man had been visiting Western Union and Money Gram locations in southern Utah in recent months, using the names of different identity fraud victims from other states – mainly Texas – and wiring himself money.

“We suspect that he’s taking credit card information either illegally obtained through skimming credit cards or getting the credit card information,” Despain said.

Despain didn’t immediately have a total number of victims or dollar amount of money stolen, but said the amount was “significant.”

It is not believed any of the victims are in Utah, Despain said.

Investigators said the man has consistently used an address out of Indianapolis for the transactions.

“We don’t know if he’s from Indiana,” Despain said. “We suspect that he’s actually from this area just based on the frequency of use here in the southern Utah area.”

Surveillance images show a man in his mid-50s with brown hair, balding on top, and a stocky build.

Despain said it’s believed the man drives a white car caught in another surveillance photo that appears to be a newer model white Buick Lacrosse or Volvo.

“They can be challenging cases, but in this case we think we have a pretty good shot of identifying who this guy is and hopefully taking him into custody,” Despain said.

Despain said anybody who can identify the man or provide information in the case is asked to call the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300 and reference incident # 15P012936.
