SALT LAKE CITY — Pet lovers and animals that need love met at the Utah State Fair Park Saturday for the spring NKUT adoption.
No-Kill Utah is an organization that helps animals in shelters find a place to live rather than be put down.
Last year, more than 13,000 animals died in Utah, and 8,000 were put down because they couldn't find a home.
“It’s very tragic to consider that in Utah we still have healthy, friendly, adoptive animals just because they don’t have a safe place to call home,” said Temma Martin of Best Friends Animal Society.
Martin and BFAS hope to make Utah the second no-kill state in the United States.
Utah is currently at a 77 percent no-kill rate, and the organizations' goal is to reach 90 percent.
More than 300 cats and dogs found a home Saturday.
