UTAH STATE PRISON — Two separate inmate attacks led to the lockdown of the Uinta Facility at the Utah State Prison on Saturday.
The first attack occurred at 6:30 a.m. Saturday when one inmate stabbed another during recreation time, officials say. The victim was treated at the infirmary inside the Utah State Prison for what officials said were non-life threatening injuries. The other inmate was not injured during the assault.
A second incident occurred in the Uinta Facility just before 8 a.m. Saturday when two inmates began fighting in their cell. One inmate suffered multiple stab wounds. He was initially treated in the Wasatch Infirmary at the prison but was then transported to the University Medical Center via ambulance to treat his injuries, which officials said were non-life threatening.
As of 4 p.m. Saturday, the lockdown at the Uinta Facility has been lifted. Visitation will resume as scheduled on Sunday.
The names of the inmates involved will not be released.
