SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Arts Council announced the lineup for its popular summer concerts Tuesday, proving again that the Twilight Concert Series can attract big-name bands despite its $5 ticket prices.

Earlier this month, the arts council announced the iconic indie band, Death Cab for Cutie, would headline the first concert of the series, which recurs on Thursdays throughout July and August. The Oakland, California, band Tune-yards will open at that July 16 concert.

According to Tuesday’s announcement via Mayor Ralph Becker's YouTube page, other bands that will play on the Pioneer Park stage include:

  • July 23: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club with Father John Misty
  • July 30: Prhyme with Adrian Younge and special guest Bishop Nehru
  • Aug. 6: The Kills with special guest Metz
  • Aug. 13: The Word with special guest Lee Fields and the Expressions
  • Aug. 20: Run the Jewels

The band to perform on Aug. 27 has yet to be announced.

In 2014 alone, the concert series brought 2014 Grammy Award-winner Beck as well as Wu Tang Clan and Lauryn Hill to its stage. Previous lineups included Ludacris, Common, MGMT, The National, JJ Grey, Raphael Saadiq, Flaming Lips, Iron and Wine, Modest Mouse, Girl Talk, Beirut and Sharon Jones.

"The amazing evolution in both scope and popularity of the Twilight concerts has not only been very fun to watch, but has been a perfect reflection of the booming growth and vitality our whole city has been experiencing," Becker said in statement. "I hope every resident can make it to a Twilight show or one of our great local summer festivals.

Each year, local artists sell their works in the adjacent Twilight market. Food and beverages are also sold in the park, available to the tens of thousands of attendees.

Season tickets can be purchased in person at Graywhale stores or 24tix offices at 314 West Broadway #214 in downtown Salt Lake City or online at 24tix for $35, and individual tickets can also be purchased online for $5. On the day of the event, concertgoers can gain admission at the gate for $10.
