UTAH COUNTY — Vivint is expanding its solar operations in the state, which means more job opportunities for Utahns.

Vivint Solar unveiled plans for its new company headquarters in Utah County on Friday, which includes construction of a 163,000-square-foot building. Construction has been underway for several weeks at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.

The company specializes in selling leases of solar equipment for residential homes, with a sales pitch that says consumers will pay less for electricity in the long-run if they use clean energy.

Some 900 people are already employed by Vivint Solar, and the new building will have room for another 1,000 employees in the future.

The company has operations in eight states. Vivint Solar will join other high-tech companies, such as Adobe and Oracle, which already operate in Lehi, attracting a workforce from both Salt Lake and Utah counties.

Construction will continue through the rest of this year and into spring of 2016.
