SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A lion at Salt Lake City's Hogle Zoo will have a chance to pick the winner of the first Super Bowl since the death of a Utah ape who gained national fame by accurately predicting the winner for seven years in a row.

Zoo officials say keepers will place two papier-mache helmets in the enclosure of a lion named Vulcan on Thursday. Whichever helmet he touches first will be considered his prediction for the winner of Sunday's showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.

An orangutan named Eli picked seven straight winners of the big game before he died in September at age 24 from complications due to breast cancer.

He was diagnosed in 2011 and underwent two surgeries before his death.
