Influx of Sundance Film Festival visitors has some Utahns feeling 'out of place'

Thousands of out-of-state visitors were walking up and down Main Street during day three of the Sundance Film Festival.

Sometimes in life you need to stop and take a look around, especially when you feel the entire state of California has been dropped in your backyard. The tourists are good for business, but leave Utahns feeling nostalgic for the days the festival was just about the films.

Sandy home total loss after basement fire, officials say

A fire that ripped through a home in Sandy Sunday evening is believed to be a total loss, according to the Sandy fire department.

Deputy Fire Chief Derek Maxfield said crews were able make entry on the main level but had a difficult time locating the origin of the fire.

Survey ranks Utah's best and worst commutes

Getting to and from work each day can be one of the most time-consuming tasks. A new report indicates that some cities take up more time than others and can be costly in more ways than one.

Traffic data analyzed from the most recent U.S. Census Bureau survey of cities with populations exceeding 7,500 showed that Price registered the best commute in Utah, followed by Cedar City and Logan, according to Salt Lake City-based insurance broker Obrella.

Police investigate fatal shooting of 24-year-old man

Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened in Sugar House Saturday evening at 1220 E. Parkway Ave.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. Rich Brede said a passing driver noticed the man lying in the street at about 7 p.m. The driver stopped to see if he could help and called police when he saw the man had been shot "in the torso area," Brede said.

Funeral services held in Provo for Becky Lockhart

Funeral services were held Friday for former Utah House Speaker Becky Lockhart, who died Saturday following a diagnosis of a rare, untreatable brain illness.

It was a solemn day at an LDS Chapel in Provo. In a 90-minute service, Becky Lockhart's family, friends, colleagues in the Utah Legislature and members of Utah's Congressional Delegation joined together to honor her, not only as speaker of the house, but as a wife and mother as well.
