SALT LAKE CITY — A SWAT team member was treated for minor injuries after being bitten by a dog Wednesday night.

The SWAT team served a narcotics-related warrant on a home near Mead Avenue and West Temple at about 9 p.m., according to Lt. Josh Scharman. He said prior to arriving on scene, the team received intelligence about an aggressive male pit bull at the house.

“The officers were able to use a variety of less-lethal items, including pepper spray and a noise-flash diversionary device, in order to subdue the dog to take it into custody,” he said. “During the process of that, one of our officers was bit on the hand.”

The team member, who is a fire marshal and paramedic, was treated on the scene and released. Animal control took the dog into its possession and will determine what to do with it after running tests.

Scharman said the dog was aggressive and that the attack did not appear to be at the command of the dog’s owner.
