SALT LAKE CITY — We are in the midst of a national debate about police, protocol and race. I’ll leave that topic for others to discuss for now, because I want to share a story that Rebecca sent in to anonymousthankyous.com. She reminded me that police officers, even with their modest salaries, are so willing to help and go the extra mile. This is what she said:

"My friend and I were at Chick-fil-a with our two 10-year-old daughters, grabbing a bite to eat before taking in a movie. After we had almost finished our meal, my daughter begged me for one of their amazing shakes. I gave her some money to go up and order and pay for it.

"Right behind her in line were two uniformed police officers. After my daughter ordered, one of the police officers stepped up and said, “put her order on mine” and then gave his order. My daughter came back to our table and told me the story with a big smile on her face.

"The police officer sat a few tables from us, so I thanked him profusely (as did my somewhat shy daughter). He humbly half-smiled and kind of put his head down and said, 'You’re so welcome.' "
