CEDAR CITY — A Cedar City man with a lengthy criminal history was arrested Tuesday night for investigation of murder after a man was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

Police found the body of Shawn Leroy Multine, 45, on the 100 East block of 525 North in Cedar City around 10:30 p.m., according to a statement from police.

Witnesses told officers they saw Angelo Seth Carrasco, 34, of Cedar City, shove a woman while he came through the door before shooting Multine. Carrasco then pointed the firearm at another man living in the home, chased the man and threatened to kill him, Cedar City police said.

Carrasco fled from the home with a rifle that police say he used in the shooting.

About 30 minutes later, police made phone contact with a woman who was with Carrasco at KB Express, 734 S. Main. Police arrived and arrested him at the convenience store without further incident.

"Carrasco admitted to investigators that he had committed the murder. Carrasco and the victim were acquaintances, but the details of their relationship are still being investigated," according to a statement from police.

Investigators interviewed and released the woman who was with Carrasco when he was arrested. Carrasco was booked into the Iron County Jail for investigation of murder, aggravated assault and aggravated burglary.

Carrasco has a lengthy criminal history that includes several violent episodes, according to court records. In 2012, he pleaded no contest to forgery. In 2011 he was convicted of attempted aggravated assault in one case and assault in another and sentenced to up to five years in prison.

In 2008, Carrasco was convicted of interfering with an arrest. He served more prison time for convictions in 2005 and 2000 for assault by a prisoner. His 2000 case also included a conviction of witness tampering, according to court records. In 1998, he was convicted of burglary.

Carrasco has been in and out of prison frequently since 2002. He was paroled in 2004, sent back in 2005, paroled again in 2007 and returned to prison in 2008, according to Utah State Prison officials.

After several more return visits, he was last released from prison on March 25, 2014, after serving time for a parole violation.
