WEST JORDAN — The Jordan School District was the first in the state to put ads on the sides of its buses, and officials reported it’s not only bringing in good money, it’s also building community pride.
Many of the neighborhoods in the district don’t allow billboards, so companies are buying space on the sides of the school buses.
“Cars are driving everywhere and thousands see it every single day,” said Richard Haight, advertising specialist in the Jordan district transportation department.
Haight said companies are happy with the results, and the district has earned six figures in revenue.

But the ads aren’t just promoting businesses.
“If you notice, that one there promotes safety with AAA,” Haight said. “We’ve got some others over here promoting the high schools.”
The district ads focus on the good things happening at specific schools, and Jordan leaders are getting positive feedback from parents and students.
“It’s really a neat thing,” Haight said. “The kids see them and get excited. The parents love to see their kids on them.”
Since there’s no middle man involved, the money goes straight to the schools and programs.
