LOVE LAND — Ladies, if you want to get your man’s attention, sometimes you have to think outside the box. Whether you want to ask him out on a date or just do something nice for your significant other, some of the most romantic gestures are the most original and personal.

Luckily there are a few examples from the movies to help you come up with a really brilliant idea.

Juno

Who knew orange Tic Tacs could be so romantic?

Juno MacGuff is all about the grand gestures, especially when it comes to doing something special for Paulie Bleeker, who just happens to be the father of her unborn child. Her first big statement is made by moving an entire living room set, complete with an awesome tiger rug, onto Bleeker’s lawn in the middle of the night.

But that isn’t half as romantic as her ultimate expression of love. Even though Juno knows Bleeker is her best friend, it isn’t until after the baby comes that she understands that he might actually be her soul mate as well. To honor this momentous realization, Juno fills Bleeker’s mailbox with his only vice, orange Tic Tacs.

The Breakfast Club

Diamonds can be a boy’s best friend, too.

We all know opposites attract, but sometimes they need a little help. Such is the case with Claire Standish and John Bender.

These two couldn’t be more different, and it takes quite awhile for them to warm up to each other. As the cliques and stereotypes fade away, each of them learn that you can’t really know a person until you give them a chance.

Then, Claire takes a chance and gives her boy one of her genuine diamond earrings, sort of a memento to top off a day of fun and flirting.

While it’s clear that no one knows what is going to happen at school on Monday, maybe the diamond will remind them that they could be meant for each other.

Chocolat

Temptation is sweet.

When Vianne turns up in a small French village, she shares her gift of candy-making with everyone she meets. Vianne also has a gift of knowing exactly what treat is a person’s favorite. For some reason though, this doesn’t work on the handsome and mysterious Roux.

Vianne is determined, however, and makes all sorts of delectable chocolates in order to woo the object of her affection. Her dedication pays off when she finally discovers Roux’s favorite sweet and her own feelings for the rugged ruffian.

Aside from the mouth-watering goodness in the movie, there is also a lesson to be learned. We never know how long love will last, so it’s important to appreciate the sweetness while we can.

Amelie

Love can be a goose chase … literally.

This quirky foreign film is full of odd twists and turns as Amelie goes about her way helping those around her. All the while, Amelie has somewhat given up on love.

Then almost as if by fate Amelie runs into Nino and she is completely captivated. Since she lacks the courage to confront him, Amelie arranges her own playful scavenger hunt of notes and surprises to get Nino’s attention. She comes up with some pretty personal ideas, from returning his lost photo album to luring him to the café where she works.

All that hard work has got to pay off for the cute couple, but you just might have to watch “Amelie” to see how it ends for yourself.

Lord of the Rings

Love is worth dying for.

Sometimes love can require certain sacrifices, but it’s all about knowing what is most important. If you ever struggle with a situation like this, just remember the beautiful Arwen.

Since Arwen is blessed with immortality, falling in love with a mortal like Aragorn causes a bit of a problem when it comes to planning a future together. Ultimately, she decides one lifetime of love with Aragorn is worth more than living forever alone and chooses mortality.

Let’s face it. No one can compete with Arwen’s gift to her beloved Aragorn. All of the presents we’ve listed so far simply pale in comparison to giving up one’s mortality for love.
