PARK CITY —The 45th annual Kimball Arts Festival is taking place in Park City this weekend with various events on the Historic Park City Main Street and all over town.

The festivities — which attract over 58,000 people from around the country annually — will begin on Friday, Aug. 1 and wrap up on Main Street Sunday, Aug. 3. Every dollar the event receives goes towards keeping the Kimball Art exhibitions and education programs free to the public.

The three-day event was named one of the top 20 art festivals in the country by Smithsonian Magazine and features over 200 artists from around the country along with local cuisine and live entertainment.

Here is a list of different festival attractions taking place this weekend.

Music:

Throughout the festival there are many performances on the Kimball Stage, Miner's Park Stage or the Artisan Stage every day. Every night of the festival, there is a main music event.

Friday at 7:30 p.m., the Utah Symphony will play ‘Music from Disney' at Deer Valley's outdoor amphitheater. Saturday, the Honey Island Swamp Band plays a free concert at the Canyons Resort at 6 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. the Utah Symphony again plays at Deer Valley paying tribute to Neil Diamond. Sunday at 7 p.m. Muscle Shoals & Lisa Fischer from 20 Feet from Stardom play at Deer Valley. Lisa Fischer, a Grammy winner, is best known for her duet ‘Gimme Shelter' with The Rolling Stones.

The festival ensures music that will fit every musical taste. Bands such as Ghostowne will provide a southern country rock sound, while groups such as the Soulifters Gospel Band and Better Off with the Blues will provide festival goers a chance to hear songs from all genres.

For the whole family:

The Kimball Arts Festival is for the whole family and provides many activities for free or for only a few dollars. Kids can participate in ceramics, face painting, scavenger hunts, demonstrations and other happenings going on throughout the weekend.

This year at the festival, Katherine England, a muralist, will be helping design a community mosaic project. Kids and adults can help create a 5-by 4-foot colorful glass mosaic that will permanently become a part of the Kimball Art Center and those that participate will get their name on a plaque at the art center.

Cuisine:

The Arts Festival collaborates with many of Park City's restaurants and cafes to organize special promotions and pricing just for the festival weekend. During the weekend there will also be local food vendors.

At the top of Main Street there will be ‘Utah Artisan Tasting' going on. This area will feature six small Utah hand-crafted food producers who create award-winning products. At the Artisan Tasting, jams, chocolates, popcorn, caramels and a variety of bread will be available so everyone can sample the local specialties.

Art:

The main attraction is of course the hundreds of artists that come from around the country and showcase their work. The artists are required to apply to the festival every year where they are then selected by an independent jury of art professionals, collectors and enthusiasts. The artists display their skills in a variety of mediums such as ceramics, drawing, fiber, jewelry, metals, glass, painting, photography, mixed media, wood, sculpture and print making.

The 2013 Best in Show winners will be located at the intersection of Heber Avenue and Main Street to show off their winning displays from last year. Throughout the weekend, people can wander Main Street and admire all of the different artists' works and styles.
