HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say the investigation into the fatal police shooting of a man who allegedly confronted an officer with a large knife will be presented to an Ohio grand jury to determine whether to charge the officer.
Butler County's coroner on Monday identified 24-year-old Michael Wilson-Salzl as the man fatally shot Saturday at an apartment complex in Hamilton, about 33 miles (53 kilometers) north of Cincinnati.
Police Chief Craig Bucheit says the Hamilton officer was responding to a report of a shooting and fired when Wilson-Salzl came at him with a knife in the parking lot.
Bucheit says the officer was alone and not wearing a body camera. He is on administrative leave pending outcome of the investigation.
Police are also investigating the original shooting call. No other victims were found.
