SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Work on the north Spokane freeway and a handful of other major construction projects in the Spokane region resumes on Monday.
The freeway, first proposed more than 50 years ago, will connect Interstate 90 with roads north of Spokane.
The Spokesman-Review reports that the state has already spent more than $600 million on the freeway.
The state plans to spend another $879 million to finish what will ultimately be a $1.5 billion high-speed bypass that avoids the current congested city streets.
Completion will come in steps through the Connecting Washington funding program approved by state lawmakers in 2015.
