SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A 5-year-old boy is dead after he was hit by a car while trying to cross a highway near Salt Lake City.
North Salt Lake Police said Raymond Zalas died at a hospital Monday night, hours after the collision on U.S. 89.
Police Chief Craig Black says officers are investigating but it doesn't appear the driver was impaired or speeding at the time.
Black says the boy was not in a crosswalk, but the apartment complex where he lived was on the other side of the road.
