FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) — Two cars were engulfed in flames and several others were damaged after a 70-year-old motorist crashed into a pump at a Farmington gas station.

The fire was reported around 6:45 p.m. Monday at the Food Bag/Citgo station on Main Street.

Police say the driver backed into the pump after accidentally hitting the gas instead of the brake. The impact tipped the pump onto another car and ignited the blaze.

In all, two cars were left completely burnt and three others were damaged. The flames also charred the canopy above the pumps.

Police say everyone had time to evacuate following the crash. No injuries were reported.

It's unclear if the motorist will face any charges. An investigation is ongoing.
