RENO, Nev. (AP) — Nevada officials say they paid out a $500 reward for the return of a radioactive density gauge that went missing from a job site in Reno earlier this week.
The gauge contains the radioactive isotopes Cesium-137 and Americium 241. When used by trained technicians taking proper security measures, the isotopes do not usually pose a risk.
The state health department had said the radiation source wasn't secured before the gauge went missing Monday evening, and urged extreme caution for anyone who might come into contact with it.
Officials said Thursday that the missing gage was returned Wednesday afternoon.
