HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Fire officials say five people were displaced and three people escaped serious injury when a fire in one house spread to a neighboring home and a recreational vehicle in Henderson.

Henderson city spokeswoman Kathleen Richards says the first firefighters to arrive at the fire about 2:40 p.m. Tuesday found one single-story home fully ablaze and flames spreading on Zuber Avenue.

Fire officials say two residents of the first home weren't home when the fire started.

Two adults and a child were able to get out of the second home before firefighters arrived.

Two pet cats perished in the fire.

An apartment building behind the home was evacuated, but wasn't damaged.

Damage to the homes and RV was estimated at about $445,000.

The cause of the fire was being investigated.
