CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A decorated Iraq War veteran has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for his role in an anti-government plot, fueled by fears of martial law.

Local media outlets reported 51-year-old Walter Eugene Litteral of Gastonia was sentenced on Tuesday in federal court in Charlotte. He has already served 11 months.

Litteral, a Bronze Star awardee, pleaded guilty to several charges, including conspiracy to commit offense against the United States. He is one of three Gaston County men who plotted to use violence to fight off what they felt was impending martial law. Two of the defendants already are in prison.

In court documents, Litteral bragged of arming himself with destructive devices, from pipe bombs and coffee cans filled with ball bearings to tennis balls packed with explosives and taped with nails.
