EDEN, Utah (AP) — Powder Mountain water users are looking for a new system as future development and the deletion of a spring as a drinking water source has forced changes to water rights in the area.
The Standard-Examiner reports that the Utah Division of Drinking Water alerted Powder Mountain Water & Sewer Improvement District on June 17 that a spring that serves as its sole water source was at risk of potential contamination from surface water.
In order to remove the spring from use, the district switched to relying on a well owned by Summit, a collective that owns and intends to develop portions of the mountain.
With the added strain, Summit is looking to purchase water shares to help provide water for Powder Mountain residents and to serve development.
