MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — A South Florida police officer shot a suspect during a gunfight that erupted at a traffic stop.
Local media report that a Miami Gardens police officer in a marked car pulled over a suspect early Sunday when the man pulled a gun. The officer and suspect exchanged gunfire. The officer wounded the suspect, who drove away. The officer gave chase and captured the suspect, who was taken to the hospital. He is expected to survive. The officer was not hurt.
Officers say they recovered two guns and a bulletproof vest from the suspect's car.
Neither the officer's nor the suspect's name have been released. The Miami Gardens police did not immediately return a phone message and email seeking comment.
