BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — State officials say population growth in North Dakota is expected to continue, prompting an anticipated boom in K-12 and college enrollment.
The Bismarck Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1TZgtxd ) that by 2030, the population in the western part of the state should surpass the eastern side. North Dakota Census Office Manager Kevin Iverson says the Fargo area is expected to grow the fastest, but the population of other eastern cities including Jamestown and Devils Lake should remain flat.
Iverson's comments came during the North Dakota University System's recent Envision 2030 summit, which brings together leaders to discuss issues related to higher education.
Middle schools already have a high number of students, and as those students graduate high school in a few years, enrollment at North Dakota colleges is expected to rise.
