OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) — The St. Landry Parish School Board has voted not to renew Superintendent Edward Brown's contract.
KATC-TV reports (http://bit.ly/25k8N3S ) the board voted 8-3 this week. Brown says the decision was not a complete surprise, but he didn't expect it to come so abruptly.
Board member Randy Wagley says the decision was based on continued poor school performance and the board believed it was time to try something different.
When Brown became superintendent in May 2013, the schools were given a "C'' rating. The schools have not progressed beyond a "C'' rating during Brown's tenure.
This will be the fourth time that the parish is searching for a new superintendent in five years. They have not decided when a search for Brown's replacement will begin.
