NATRONA HEIGHTS, Pa. (AP) — Teachers in one western Pennsylvania school district will strike April 13 if they don't get a new contract.
The union in the Highlands School District says its 190 teachers voted Tuesday to authorize the strike.
State law requires the union to give at least 48 hours' notice of a strike.
Randy Rybak, president of the Highlands Education Association, says the advance notice gives everyone in the district a chance to prepare for a strike. It also gives the union a chance to remind people that the sides have been bargaining since last January.
School board member Eric Miles says the announcement will ramp up pressure for a deal. The teachers may strike for eight days before they'll have to return under a state law mandating a minimum number of classroom days.
