TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The City Council has approved the appointment of Nampa police Chief Craig Kingsbury as head of the Twin Falls police force.

The council approved his appointment with a unanimous vote Monday. Kingsbury is resigning from the Nampa department Dec. 17, The Times-News reports (http://bit.ly/1NFRxgY).

Kingsbury replaces Capt. Bryan Krear, who was appointed interim chief when Brian Pike was promoted to deputy city manager for public safety almost a year ago. Krear plans to retire at the end of this year.

Kingsbury will begin in January with a $115,000 salary.

At the council meeting, City Manager Travis Rothweiler said Kingsbry is uniquely qualified for the position thanks to his time in Nampa. Twin Falls is working to build a new public safety complex much like Nampa was in 2012.

Kingsbury's qualifications are "exactly what a growing metropolis, a mini-metropolis like Twin Falls needs," Councilman Chris Talkington said.

Kingsbury says he sees parallels between Nampa and Twin Falls, making him prepared to tackle the challenges of a growing city.

"Twin Falls is experiencing that growth right now that we were experiencing in Nampa several years ago," he said.
