CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are reviewing a measure that would require a "cooling off" period for former legislators.
Republican Assemblyman Pat Hickey presented AB 273 to the Senate Legislative Operations and Elections Committee on Wednesday.
The measure would prohibit former Nevada lawmakers from working as a contract lobbyist during the first legislative session after they leave office.
The bill would allow former lawmakers to lobby if it was part of their job duties, and that it wouldn't take effect until after the 2016 election.
Hickey said the measure was ethically important and would help prevent the appearance of undue influence on the part of former legislators.
The measure passed unanimously out of the Assembly in April. Hickey introduced a similar measure last year that failed to get a vote in the Senate.
