SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (AP) — University of California, Santa Cruz officials say student protesters against tuition increases have cleared both entrances to campus.
About 75 student protesters blocked both entrances for most of Thursday to protest tuition hikes.
The university says on its website that protesters gathered on streets near the main gate after clearing the entrances. They had cleared out of the area by Thursday night.
On Tuesday, police arrested six protesters who shut down a highway for several hours by chaining themselves to bins filled with concrete placed in lanes.
The California Highway Patrol used jackhammers, saws and crowbars to unwind the tangle of chains and concrete. The suspects were arrested on suspicion of creating a public nuisance, failure to obey an officer and conspiracy.
