BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — About $4,000 in reward money collected after someone poisoned several dogs in Boulder County will be donated to two animal shelters and a group that finds dogs for veterans.

The Boulder Daily Camera reported Saturday (http://tinyurl.com/kf8a4lo ) a neighborhood group that oversaw the reward fund decided to donate the money because no one was ever arrested.

At least three dogs were sickened after eating meatballs laced with pesticide that were left in Buckingham Park in the town of Gunbarrel north of Boulder. All the dogs survived.

A neighborhood group called Friends of Buckingham Park said Friday the reward money would be divided among the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, the Longmont Humane Society and the Wounded Warriors Project.

The group says it consulted with investigators before deciding to donate the reward.
