PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly told graduates at Bradley University that changing the world requires dedication and patience.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (http://bit.ly/1wSdoYr ) that Kelly spoke Saturday at the Peoria private university's commencement about the importance of civic involvement. Kelly has both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from the school and serves on its board of trustees. She is a Cook County Democrat and was elected to office in April 2013.

Kelly told graduates that society needs them to get involved. She says now is their time to "stand up and be counted" and determine their own destinies.
