SILVER CITY, Nev. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the cause of a fatal fire at an historic home in Silver City.
Firefighters from Lyon and Storey County say the home already was half engulfed in flames when they responded to the fire about 1 a.m. Friday.
Fire crews recovered a body from the wreckage and transported it to the Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office in Reno for positive identification.
Neighbors told KRNV-TV (http://tinyurl.com/o563r7z) they believe the victim was a woman who lived in the top unit of the home that was renovated from an historic church dating to 1938.
One brave neighbor rescued a pet cat from the burning home. A pet dog is still missing. Neighbor Bill Watts says flames were shooting through the roof "like an inferno" when firefighters arrived on the scene.
