WATFORD CITY, N.D. (AP) — Construction is underway on a new high school in Watford City.
Ground was broken for a $50 million facility on Monday. The school is slated to be completed by winter 2015. It will be able to hold 800 students.
Gov. Jack Dalrymple says the new school will help the McKenzie County School District deal with growing enrollment.
Watford City had a population of 1,744 in the 2010 census. But North Dakota's oil boom has brought thousands more to the community.
Schools across North Dakota's western oil patch have struggled to keep up with dramatic population growth in recent years.
