SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A group of snowboarders are reasserting their claim that a ban should be lifted at Utah's Alta Ski Area, pushing back against the notion that it would set off a string of other lawsuits. Attorneys for the four snowboarders argue in a new filing with the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals that this is a unique case specifically about the fact that Alta is denying access to snowboarders on leased public land designated for all snow sports.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Colorado man accused in the 2012 beating death of his Utah girlfriend is expected stand trial later this year, but a defense attorney says the court date may be scrapped after new evidence is reviewed. A Utah judge has scheduled a Nov. 30 trial for 18-year-old Darwin Christopher Bagshaw of Grand Junction. He's charged with the murder of 15-year-old Anne Kasprzak, whose body was found in a Utah river.

PORT BYRON, N.Y. (AP) — A descendant of early Mormon church leader Brigham Young has bought the central New York home where his ancestor lived two decades before leading the Mormon migration to Utah. The Citizen of Auburn reports retired federal prosecutor Richard Lambert purchased the home for $30,000 in April. The dilapidated two-room building sits on property in the village of Port Byron, on the New York State Thruway 25 miles west of Syracuse.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal labor officials have fined a Utah electrical contractor $376,300, saying the company illegally used child workers on construction sites in Utah and Oklahoma. The U.S. Department of Labor says Hildale-based Reliance Electric Inc. used five workers under age 14, including a 13-year-old who operated a forklift, in the city on the Utah-Arizona border. Hildale, Utah and its sister town of Colorado City, Arizona, are home to the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a polygamous sect.
