CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada panel has revived and passed a measure that would change the state's presidential caucus to a primary election. The measure would allow national political party heads to change Nevada's current caucus system for selecting a presidential candidate to a primary election. Supporters say the change would increase voter turnout and avoid a confusing caucus process.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada bill that would allow students to use the state funds designated for their public education at a private school is drawing strong reactions on both sides. The bill would allow students a grant equal to 90 percent of their per-pupil state funding allotment. Students could use the money for tuition, textbooks and tutoring. Democrats asked whether the bill would further strain public school funding.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada Assembly panel has approved a plan worth about $600 million that would permanently extend some temporary taxes and raise the state's cigarette tax. The bill would make temporary and expiring rates on the payroll tax and sales tax permanent. It also raises taxes on cigarettes from 80 cents to $1.80 per pack.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A legislative committee is expected to vote today on changes to Nevada's live entertainment tax that members say will capture revenue from an evolving entertainment landscape and close confusing loopholes. The bill proposes a 9 percent tax on live entertainment and an 8 percent rate for boxing matches. The existing system imposes a 5 percent or 10 percent tax depending on the size of the venue.
