BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho health officials say ground squirrels south of Boise have tested positive for plague and that humans and pets should avoid the area. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare says the bacterial disease can be spread by the bites of fleas or by direct contact with infected animals.

KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — A judge has ordered a new evaluation to determine if a man accused of killing a Camas County businessman twelve years ago is mentally fit to stand trial. The Idaho Mountain Express reports the judge's ruling in the case of 37-year-old Harley Park came after a motion for mental evaluation was filed by both the defense and prosecution.

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — A Chubbuck couple has reached a plea agreement with prosecutors in the accidental shooting death of a 5-year-old KIDK-TV reports Rusty and Ashlee Lish must pay $28,000 to the child's family, among other conditions. Noelle Shawver was shot by the Lishes' 5-year-old while visiting the couple's home.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's unemployment rate remained at a seven-year low of 3.8 percent in April. But the Idaho Department of Labor says the number of employed people in the state increased slightly by 4,000 to set a total employment record for the state of 761,000. The agency says a healthy housing market and a natural seasonal increase pushed construction jobs up 7.6 percent in the past year.
