SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former Utah Chief Deputy Attorney General Kirk Torgensen was fired over Friday, eight months after being placed on administrative leave. A spokeswoman for the office declined to give a reason for the firing. Torgensen was demoted from his No. 2 position in the office a year ago when Sean Reyes became attorney general and has been on paid leave since April.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A 36-year-old man shot and critically wounded by police inside an Ogden restaurant last month has been arrested following his release from the hospital. Leonard Marion is accused to shooting an officer who was attempting to arrest him for an earlier incident when he fled from police. An officer returned fire, striking Marion three times.

PARADISE, Utah (AP) — A hunting guide is recovering after being shot by a 12-year-old hunter Saturday at a sportsman's club in northern Utah. Cache County sheriff's deputies say Christopher Richards was leading a group of people hunting pheasants at the Sportsman's Paradise Hunting Club when he was shot. No charges are anticipated.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new report shows that Utah is once again tops in the nation for volunteer service. It marks the ninth straight year Utah has led the list. The report from the Corporation for National and Community Service, released this week, shows that nearly 45 percent percent of Utah adults volunteered in 2013. The national average is just over 25 percent.
