RENO, Nev. (AP) — The National Governors Association has selected Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval to serve as chairman of its Education and Workforce Committee.

The committee is charged with helping to shape federal policy regarding workforce development and education from early childhood through post-secondary.

Sandoval was appointed to the post by the association's chairman, Gov. John Hickenlooper of Colorado, and vice chairman, Gov. Gary Herbert of Utah.

Herbert said in a statement Tuesday that Sandoval is the right choice to help shape polices to prepare today's workforce and help the country compete in the global marketplace.

The Nevada Republican currently is running for re-election to a second term.
