AUNT MAY’S PLACE — This article isn’t to let you know if “Spiderman: Homecoming” is worth a trip to the theater (it is) or how it ranks in the Spider-Man movie canon (it’s the best). This article is to let you know what you can expect to see in the movie so you can make a decision on if the content is something you are comfortable with your kids seeing.

As always, I am not here to tell you what is and is not appropriate for you and your kids— only you can answer that. This is just to let you know what is in the film so you can make an educated decision.

Sexiness

I don’t think this is an area we really need to worry about in “Homecoming.” We see Peter with his shirt off a couple of times and the filmmakers have certainly tried to sexualize Aunt May, but it wasn’t anything obscene or demeaning. It’s more just the fact that Peter Parker’s aunt is now an attractive woman.

There are overtones of teen romance, but nothing is shown or even alluded to really. They just let you know there are crushes among characters.

Language

This movie was actually tamer on the language side than many of its Marvel counterparts. There are a few words here and there, but it doesn’t get into “Guardians of the Galaxy” or “Ant-Man” territory, or even “Iron Man” for that fact. There is one so-called “R-rated word” that a character is apparently about to say, but it's cut off before anything is actually said.

Violence/disturbing

This, like almost all of the Marvel movies, is where “Homecoming” earned its PG-13 rating. None of the violence is terribly brutal, but there is a lot of fighting and a couple of the scenes can get pretty intense for younger audiences.

A couple of the fight scenes get very personal and, again, the peril may be a little strong for some of the little ones; but overall, it’s pretty much what you see in most of the other Marvel movies, maybe even toned down a notch.

Teen drinking

So there is actually none at all in the movie, but I know some people will see the movie and take time to comment that I missed this. There is a high school party and there are some of the infamous red Solo cups out and about during the scene. However, there is never any indication that alcohol is in the cups and no one at the party seems to be intoxicated. The host of the party even makes mention of the fact that her parents are aware of the party.

Related Stories:

The filmmakers may have wanted you to believe that there was alcohol in the cups, but it actually felt like they were trying to give the appearance of a dry party. Either way, this scene exists and now you know about it. It appeared harmless, but we’re trying to be thorough with this content guide.

Conclusion

By way of content, this is one of the tamer Marvel movies and probably even one of the tamest Spider-Man movies. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a lot of fun.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” is rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, some language and brief suggestive comments.
