SALT LAKE CITY — Award-winning songwriter and composer Christopher Jackson will be the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s guest artist at this year's Pioneer Day concert, according to an announcement from the choir on Doug Wright Monday.

Jackson, 41, is known for his role in the Broadway musical “Hamilton,” where he played George Washington in 2015 and 2016. He was nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the musical. He also recorded the song "Where you are" for Disney’s “Moana.” He currently appears on the CBS drama “Bull.”

In 2011, Jackson won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Song, “What I am,” which he wrote for “Sesame Street,” which was performed by Will.i.am.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra will be performing their annual “Music for a Summer Evening” — in conjunction with Pioneer Day celebrations — at 8 p.m. on July 14 and 15 in the Conference Center at Temple Square, according to the choir's website.

Tickets are required for entry but are free of charge. They will be available on a first come first serve basis on June 20 at 10 a.m. on LDS.org/events, by calling 801-570-0080 or at the Conference Center ticket office. Attendees must be at least 8 years old, according to the release. There will also be last-minute seating for those without tickets, according to the choir.
