THE DEATH STAR — Most people reading this probably live in Utah or have lived in Utah, so you know the struggle is real for Mormon men and women who miss up to two years of pop culture when they serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint.
There’s nothing like living in the moment of a pop culture frenzy or phenomenon, but the next best thing is catching up on your favorites binge-style.
A woman named Brinley who is a huge "Star Wars" fan recently returned from her LDS mission. The timing of her service for her church means she missed the release of both “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” according to her friend and YouTube user Stephen Smoot.
Luckily for Brinley, her friends were waiting with copies of the movies to catch her up on her favorite franchise. As “Rogue One” was coming to a close, Smoot began discreetly filming Brinley’s reaction as the plot connects some famously rebel-stolen Death Star plans to the larger cannon, which includes an amazing Darth Vader cameo.
Her tears, gapes and gasps are delightful to watch as she experiences those scenes for the first time. There’s no way to give her reactions justice here, so take a gander at the video and see for yourself. (Here’s a link to the clip she’s watching if you want to refresh your memory.)
To Brinley’s credit, she’s also a good sport when she realizes all her emotions were caught on film. Personally, I try to keep videos of me crying off the internet as much as possible.
