WOODLAND, Summit County — A 47-year-old woman was killed Sunday after the motorcycle she was riding failed to negotiate a turn on state Route 35 about 14 miles east of Woodland.
The Utah Highway Patrol said that Claire Benson of Pleasant Grove was traveling west on the highway on separate motorcycles with her husband when her motorcycle crossed into oncoming traffic at about 4 p.m.
She was struck head-on by a 2016 Dodge truck and died at the scene, despite wearing a helmet and other protective gear.
The highway was shut down for about one hour in both directions.
Excessive speed is being investigated as a possible factor. The highway patrol said the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.
