SALT LAKE CITY — A South Jordan man who opened fire on another man who complimented his ball cap last summer is headed to federal prison for illegally possessing ammunition.
Aldo Gonzalez, 26, reached a plea deal in U.S. District Court earlier this month in which he admitted to possession of ammunition after a previous felony conviction. The agreement includes a 10-year prison sentence.
Last July, a man at a restaurant saw Gonzalez wearing a San Francisco 49ers hat and told him it was cool. Gonzalez, who goes by street name Doughboy, belongs to the Nortenos Familia Varrio Loco gang, prosecutors said.
When the man returned home, he was approached by Gonzalez and another man who asked, "What set you claim?" before firing a gun at him. The man was not injured.
After being spotted by police, Gonzalez led officers on a car chase before getting out and running. With the assistance of a police K-9 and witnesses, police were able to track Gonzalez to a home where he was arrested.
