WEST HAVEN, Weber County — A man wanted in connection with a shooting a week ago in West Haven has been arrested.

Jes Robert Vollmer, 38, of Ogden, was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of attempted aggravated murder, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, obstruction of justice and drug possession.

On Nov. 25, deputies were called to 1022 W. Wilson Lane, where they found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

Vollmer and the victim knew each other, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Nate Hutchinson. The victim had been invited to the house that evening, but investigators weren't sure if he was going to see Vollmer or someone else.

The shooting happened at a house owned by one of Vollmer's relatives, Hutchinson said, and Vollmer often stayed there. Investigators did not know Friday if drugs or alcohol were factors in the shooting. When Vollmer was arrested in Ogden he was in possession of methamphetamine, Hutchinson said. Detectives also recovered the handgun allegedly used in the shooting.

Although the man who was shot did not die, Hutchinson said he remained hospitalized Friday and was being medicated so detectives had not had a chance to interview him extensively.

Vollmer has a lengthy criminal history, according to court records. He was convicted of aggravated assault in 2011 and sentenced to up to five years at the Utah State Prison. He was also convicted of simple assault in 2005. Vollmer has also had several protective orders taken out against.
