SALT LAKE CITY — In the same vein as the New Testament videos it recently produced, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is planning to produce a video library of scenes from the Book of Mormon, the LDS Church reported.

The church plans to release the first videos in the project in 2018.

“These Book of Mormon videos will have the same purpose as the Book of Mormon itself — to bring people closer to Jesus Christ,” Elder Larry R. Lawrence, a General Authority Seventy, said. “We hope the video library will build bridges of understanding and increase interest in God’s word, which in turn can change hearts and inspire people to live better lives.”

The LDS Church is looking for people to act in the videos and is inviting both experienced actors and inexperienced individuals to visit casting.lds.org for more information about the project, the LDS Church reported.

The church expects to start filming in June 2017 at its Jerusalem movie set near Goshen in Utah County. There may be some filming done in additional North American locations, according to the LDS Church.

“The Book of Mormon videos will be used in church classrooms, in missionary work and in Latter-day Saint homes for personal and family viewing,” the LDS Church reported. “The video footage will also be available to Latter-day Saints and those of other faiths interested in using video and image assets for various noncommercial projects.”
