HEBER CITY — A Heber City man died Monday when his car crossed into oncoming traffic on U.S. 189, police said.
About 11:40 a.m., Joseph Forbush, 20, was driving a Subaru Legacy west when he drifted into the eastbound lanes and collided head-on with a semitruck near the edge of Heber City, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
Forbush died at the scene. Investigators were unsure what caused Forbush to drift into oncoming traffic, though impairment is not suspected. The UHP noted that he was driving in rainy weather at the time and that the roadway was wet.
Police also didn't know Monday whether Forbush was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the semi suffered only minor leg injuries, UHP Sgt. Todd Royce confirmed.
U.S. 189 was closed to traffic for more than three hours, but delays to motorists were minimal, according to the UHP.
