OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A Riverdale man accused in a fatal shooting on a hiking trail last year will go to trial later this month.
The Standard-Examiner of Ogden reports that attorneys confirmed this week that trial proceedings for Luciano Silva are to begin Oct. 24.
The 21-year-old faces one count of murder, one count of possession of a dangerous weapon and two counts of obstructing justice.
Police say Silva shot 25-year-old Horacio Mendez Sanchez in September 2015.
Sanchez's body was found along Riverdale Parkway Trail.
Silva told investigators he acted in self-defense. But a witness says Silva told him they had been arguing about music before the shooting.
Silva is being held in Weber County Jail without bail.
