In life, there is no shortage of problems to deal with. No matter what your daily battles are, it's easy to start focusing on the negatives, which can put you on track to feel down in the dumps. Here are 7 tips to help dispel that negative feeling and expand your vision to the positive things all around you.

Smile

How often do we walk down a hallway, cross a street or go into an elevator only to immediately put our heads down and avoid eye contact? We do it all the time out of insecurity, shyness or even laziness. Next time try keeping your head up and giving someone you pass by a genuine smile. Maybe they won't respond in kind, but you will certainly feel better.

Stop complaining

While venting your frustrations when under stress can feel liberating and even be beneficial to do, chronic complaining is no good. No one wants to be around a chronic complainer, and in the end, complaining will only further narrow your focus on the seemingly unjust things in your life. Stop the complaining, focus on the positive and set forth a plan of action on what you can do to change a circumstance.

Don't worry

Life, for everyone, has unforeseen twists and turns. You never know what's coming, good or bad, so stop worrying about the future. Don't let the fear of the unknown prevent you from being and doing what you think is best for you and those you are responsible for. Of course, have a reasonable backup plan in place, but worrying about things that you have little or no control over will only bring unnecessary stress. Live in the moment and enjoy even the small things, for every day is a blessing.

Stop waiting to be happy

One of the best ways to cultivate positive energy is to never let yourself think, "I'll be so happy when..." Be happy now. Don't rely on events in life to bring you happiness; that is not what happiness is. Focus on what matters most, on the roots of a fruitful life, and enjoy today no matter what part of the road of life you're on.

Stop trying to please everyone

One of the fastest ways to improve your positive energy is to develop a healthy balance of loving and giving time to yourself and to others. Seeking to make everyone else happy, a seemingly noble desire, will only cause you to end up neglecting yourself and cause you to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Stay active in your hobbies; take time for meditation; spend genuine time with positive family and friends; and take care of yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually.

No more judging

While judging or speaking ill of someone behind his or her back might feel good in the moment, in the end it does nothing good for anyone. Try on the other person's metaphorical shoes for a moment and practice empathy. Compliment them generously and sincerely. Kind words work wonders in creating positive energy between people.

Let it go

Holding onto things that have hurt you causes a wound to fester for far longer than is ever necessary. Awful things can and will happen to everyone in life, but few things are as liberating and as positive as letting go of long-held feelings of guilt, pain, anger and regret. Life is too short to be lived with these heavy emotions weighing you down. Make restitution if possible and seek peace and healing however you can — and then let it go. It's time.

While there surely are many other ways one can bring positive energy into one's life, these are great starting points. If you need help in bringing restitution to a difficult legal situation, Robert J. DeBry and Associates can help bring that peace you've been looking for.
