SALT LAKE CITY — The KSL College Football Pick’em app, a weekly contest to predict local and national college football games, is back and even better.

As college football prepares for its glorious return, it’s time to put your prediction skills to the test. Last season, the Pick’em app had approximately 5,000 participants, with winner Erik Ashby of Weber County taking home a 4K Vizio 50-inch TV when all the dust was settled.

For those new to the contest it’s a simple task: guess the score for five college football games selected by the KSL staff each week throughout the season. Each week, the BYU, Utah and Utah State game will be included in the predictions, with other national games included in the mix.

The participant who picks the winning team and is closest to the final game score will earn the maximum number of points — 50 — allowed, with everyone else graded based on how close they are to the score. When two local teams (BYU, Utah or Utah State) play each other, the maximum game score will be worth 100 points.

All participants that pick a winning team will receive a minimum of 10 points. Those picking the losing team will receive 0 points, no matter how close they are to the final game score. For a detailed look at the scoring, click here.

When you sign up, the app will ask you to select your favorite team — BYU, Utah, Utah State or Other. We’ll give a weekly look at what fanbase can most accurately pick the games.

Those who participated last year will find an improved group process that includes score breakdown charts, stats and achievement badges. We’ve also made it possible to join multiple groups, so challenge everyone you know.

As if the gratification of picking the game scores correctly was not enough, we’ll be giving out weekly prizes from our contest sponsor Mountain America Credit Union. Each week, the individual who scores the most total points will receive a $100 VISA gift card, with the second-place finisher receiving a $75 VISA gift card and the third-place finisher receiving a $50 VISA gift card.

There will also be an overall season winner, who will receive a $500 VISA gift card, with the second-place finisher receiving a $250 VISA gift card and the third-place finisher receiving a $100 VISA gift card.
