EUGENE, Ore. — Shea Martinez-Collinsworth took the top semifinal time into the 800-meter finals of the NCAA women’s track and field championships Saturday.

The BYU junior led for much of the race, too, but for one of the year’s best kicks in collegiate track.

Collinsworth finished third in a personal-best time of 2:02.83 in the 800 final, holding on after Oregon’s Raevyn Rogers used a devastating kick through the final turn to win the event in 2:00.75, the top time in 2016 across the NCAA.

With the finish, Collinsworth earned her second All-American honor to go along with indoor All-American honors in 2015. Her time is the third-fastest 800-meter time in BYU history, and an automatic qualifying mark for this summer's U.S. Olympic trials.

Stanford’s Olivia Baker was second in 2:02.65.

Collinsworth took a lead going into the final lap, but Louisiana State’s Morgan Schultz pushed the pace with about 200 meters to send the pack into the final sprint. Schultz finished seventh in 2:03.72.

The wife of former BYU basketball standout Kyle Collinsworth, who was at the University of Oregon’s track and field complex after working out with the Jazz on Friday, was trying to become BYU’s first NCAA individual track champion since Nachelle Mackie won the 800-meter title in 2012 with a mark of 2:01.06.

Collinsworth joined BYU men’s track standout Shaquille Walker, who placed third in the 800 in Friday’s men’s final.
