SALT LAKE CITY — In conjunction with LDS General Conference, this weekend KSL-TV will suspend its regular daytime programming and will air several inspiring, locally-produced documentaries addressing a wide range of topics including: the new Provo City Center Temple, refugee resettlement issues, charity care, and Mormon stories and urban legends. Be sure to tune in to watch each of these specials. Here is a rundown of the special programs:

Saturday, April 2

History of the Saints presents "With courage strong: The journal of pioneer trail."

9:30 - 10 a.m.

This special is a collection of stories from the actual journals of pioneers who experienced the trail. It shares stories of early Latter-day Saints beginning with their religious conversion in their mother country, to the voyage sailing across the ocean, and finally the rigors of life on the trail. This rich historical account includes the story of one teenager who gained an appreciation for the difficulty of pulling a loaded handcart in steep terrain. It is a touching narrative of what life on the trail was really like.

Rising from the ashes: A new temple in Provo

12 -12:30 p.m.

This documentary takes a look at the unique nature of the new Provo City Center Temple and how it came to be. It was literally built from the ashes of the Provo Tabernacle. You’ll see historical insights and personal stories about the significance and importance of this new temple.

Fact or fiction? Mormon stories and urban legends

12:30 p.m. - 1 p.m.

Folklore is alive and well in the Mormon culture, but many of the stories that get spread at lightning speed among church members are simply not true. We’ll explore 20 common urban legends: Did the Disney hearse carry Brigham Young’s body to his final resting place? Was it really the voice of Sting singing LDS children’s favorite “Book of Mormon Stories?” Did John Taylor’s pocket watch actually save his life at Carthage Jail? In “Fact or Fiction? Mormon Stories and Urban Legends,” the truth may surprise you!

1 p.m. - 2 p.m.

This one-hour, semi-annual report explores some of the major news events around the world pertaining to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We’re better together

4 p.m. - 5 p.m.

See the remarkable capacity the LDS Church has to quickly mobilize volunteer efforts and help people in distressed areas of the world, regardless of race or religion. LDS Charities shows “We’re better together” as it partners with other charitable organizations around the globe who are also seeking to provide relief.

Sunday, April 3

Showtime in Branson: Celebrating family, faith and country

9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.

Wholesome entertainment, music and dance gain top-billing as the live stage shows in Branson focus on the importance of family, faith and a love of country. “Showtime in Branson” will introduce you to a few of the big-name LDS performers in Missouri.

A Powerful voice: LDS women speak out

12 p.m. - 1 p.m.

LDS women from all over the world speak out about their important role as women in the church. Carole Mikita weaves the history of the LDS Relief Society together with the powerful voices of many inspiring women in the church today. She shows how all generations of LDS women have served and led in their wards, families and communities and why they are a powerful voice for good in the world.

A Pathway out of poverty

1 p.m. - 2 p.m.

Fifteen years ago President Gordon B. Hinckley, prophet for the LDS Church, announced a new program designed to help members in impoverished nations improve their living conditions. Thousands of LDS church members have found a pathway out of poverty through the Perpetual Education Fund (PEF). Today the program has expanded and offers much more than educational loans. This special examines the international aspects of the current Self-Reliance Services initiative and shares the history, the stories of success, and the future of this inspired program.

A place to call home

4 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Various church, state, and private organizations have come together to help refugees in Utah find a place to call home. This documentary will share the powerful stories of people involved in the Utah resettlement program and the daily struggle these refugees have adjusting to life here. We will give an overall look at what is being done here and the resources that are available in Utah.

Now we have 20 — A story of love, adoption and family unity

4:30 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Doug and Deanne Walker always wanted a big family. At first they thought they’d have 10 kids, but now they have 20. Follow them as they journey to China to adopt the newest member of their family.
